FAQ - SURFSCHOOL

Surf lesson warm-up on the beach in Peanut Farm, Sri Lanka

What is the best time of the day to have a lesson?

We recommend to take the lessons either in the mornings or afternoons, as mid-day can be very hot. From late July - October generally mornings are better as afternoons are sometimes windy. Also, very early mornings tend to be less crowded. We are ready from 5:30am onward! :)

What do I need to bring with me for the lesson?

Just your swimwear and some water! We’ll provide you the rest!

Does Dylan's Surf Company provide accomodation?

No sorry, we do not provide accomodation but there are plenty of options to choose from in Arugam Bay!

Can I take my own board for my intermediate surf lessons? Or can I use the board I have rented from you?

Of course! If you have your own board or if you have rented a board from us, we will deduct 400LKR from your lesson fee.

Can I take several lessons per day?

Yes you can! Though we recommend that you take max. 2 lessons per day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. You might get tired!

If I take a surf lesson package, will I have the same instructor for all lessons?

We do our best to provide you the same instructor for all your surf lessons. Usually this is not a problem but sometimes the timetables are too tight for us to be able to accommodate everyone's wishes.

If I take a Beginner surf package, what happens during each lesson? What will I learn in e.g. three lessons?

Tricky question! We accommodate all classes to our students' abilities. The first beginner lesson is pretty much the same for everyone but after that it varies depending on what needs improvement. For instance, someone may learn quickly to stand up on the board while others struggle with it and need more time to focus on that. Another person might be good at paddling while the other isn't... Therefore there is no exact content for each lesson but the idea is that you will get better and more independent each time and will eventually be able to catch your own waves!
